Our history
Even though GTA Belgium has only been around since 2022, this company has a rich history dating back to 1834. Founded in 2022 by merging 2 of our mattress ticking companies, Monks and Pieters Textiel, GTA Belgium takes the expertise that was built up over the years and proudly uses it in the production of woven and knitted bed fabrics. Monks International
Monk’s history starts in 1834 with the establishment of a cotton weaving mill in the UK. Monks Bros., as it was originally called, started off as a family company in Pendlebury, UK. The weaving mill moved to the main land in 1920, when it settled down in Belgium to continue its original activities.
Like many Belgian factories, Monks Bros. was bombed during World War II. Impoverished times lead the company to continue working with what was left. As the only department standing was that of mattress ticking, Monks decides to specialise in weaving mattress ticking.
In 2000, the company changed its name to Monks International and expanded its product range with knitted fabrics. Now focusing on the global market.
Pieters Textiel
Pieters Textiel was founded in 1934 in Beveren-Leie, Belgium. In those early years, the company grew from a commission weaver to an independent weaver creating their own mattress ticking fabrics. In the years that followed, the plant was extended with 210 cm-width weaving looms, air jet looms equipped with electronic systems, knitting machines and an in-house warping department.
In 2007, Pieters Textiel became part of a bigger textile group, allowing the company to start producing knitted fabrics as well. Production and commercial activities were moved to the site of sister company Ter Molst International.
Love Home Fabrics
Since 2017, Monks International and Pieters Textiel are part of Love Home Fabrics, a group that joins several interior textiles companies worldwide. Each company specialises in a specific area of textile design and production. The umbrella brand enables customers to select all home fabrics at one single address, constantly assuring quality, craftmanship and service.
GTA Belgium
In April 2022, Monks International and Pieters Textiel have joined forces in one company, Global Textile Alliance Belgium. GTA Belgium focuses on creating great fabrics at good value with the best service. We strive to create ready-made concepts in which fabrics for mattress and bed match perfectly together.
Pieters is our brand for high-end fabrics, produced in Belgium. The Pieters fabrics feature highly curated designs and innovative stories, such as EverJean.
